It with a heavy and sad heart

I'm not sure where to start with this.
Everyone knows that Kim ran this blog for me and was a huge support system for me during these last few years with my personal turmoil I have been going through .

3 weeks ago she sent me and email and said she was not going to be able to run SYC anymore because she had just found out she had cancer.  Sadly, Kimmy died on September 11th.

I had sent an email to her Friday asking how she was doing and Lyndon, Her longtime partner sadly replied to me.  Here is what he had to say:

Hello,

This is Kim Sonksen's partner Lyndon replying. I have some terrible news. Poor Kim passed away from cancer on Tuesday 11th September. We did not know she even had cancer until 3 weeks before then on Thursday 6th September we were told it is terminal and my lovely Kim sadly died just 5 days later. She was in no pain and went into a coma for the last 2 days of her life. I was there with her when she died.

If you are interested, you can look at Kimmy's cancer donation page although I doubt it will apply to USA folks.

Im sorry to have to tell you this terrible news. I am devastated at the loss of my Kim but I would like as many of her online friends as possible to know that she is sadly gone. She was my world. my life and my everything for these past 14 years.

Best wishes,

Lyndon (Kim's long term partner)

SYC supporters please keep Lyndon in your prayers during this tough time.
Kim was such an amazing person.  She had a wicked sense of humor and was always a positive person.  She will be sadly missed by all in the blog/scrapping world as well as those of you who got to know her on a more personal level.  RIP Kim.

Love,
Greta

Important Announcement

It is with great sadness that we have to close SYC with immediate effect.

A member of the SYC family has just received some challenging news concerning health issues and therefore we have no option but to hibernate this blogs for the time being due to time constraints.

We may be re-opening the blog at a later stage and you still have many years of challenges to browse through and allow you to: Scrap That Crap!

Thank you all for understanding and for having taking part in our challenges over the years.

Your Queen of the Crap

Thank you to everyone who played along with our floss or twine challenge last moth.

We bet you still have either - or even both - in your stash and we would love to see how you incorporate them into your projects. Use as many or as few as you like and maybe even go really wild and use both :)

For Challenge No #67 we would like to see you make use of that FLOSS or TWINE.
Embroidery Floss and Bakers Twine have become very popular over the past few years and we would like to see how you make use of it. Wrap it around your alphas, swirl it around you layout, use it as an accent or very prominently on your projects. You can use as little or as much as you like.

DT Call 2012 - September - December

Last DT Call for 2012

Our current DT are still rocking the crap until the end of August but as you all know, we like to keep things cool and stress free. So we give you loads of time to get your application in if you fancy becoming part of our fabulous Design Team.

Are you a hoarder? Do you surround yourself with pretty papers, chipboard, embellishments and continue to add to your stash rather than use it?

Well then you are the perfect crafter to become part of our DT.
Scrap You Crap is looking for eight to ten team members and ideally we would love to have a good mixture of cardmakers and scrapbookers.

**What do we ask of our Designers?
Just one project per month – due on the 7th as our challenges will go live on the 15th.
Register for our DT forum, where we will be throwing ideas around for future challenges and communicate with each other. We do not ask for gazillions of posts, just a bi-monthly check in
Promote SYC wherever possible, for example on your personal blog, online communities.
Commit to a four month term with the possibility of extending this for another term.
Leave comments on all challenge entries - this is super important and will be monitored

**What do our Designers get in return?
The gratification of having used up all that stash which gathered dust. As the concept of the blog is to make use of the stash you already own, it would be kind of defeating the object to compensate with product, right? And also, this gives you the perfect excuse to go and buy more stash...seeing that you used the old one up for our challenges :)
Designers will have a permanent link to their blog (or homepage) on our site.

If you want to become part of this well-established challenge blog, send an email to: sycchallenges@gmail.com and don’t forget to put SYC DT Call in the subject line.

We would like you to submit three projects (layouts or cards) which you feel represent your style the best but they don’t have to be newly created. Please do not send more than pictures for three projects. You can email us images of stuff you have already done before no need to recreate and keep it a secret. Please DO NOT embed images within your email we require them as attachments only. Please make sure that your pictures are not blurry and of a maximum size of 700 x 700 pixels.

Don’t forget to include a link to your personal blog (if you have one) as we are nosy like that and fancy checking you out...

Internationals are more than welcome and the deadline for this call is August 10th 2012. If accepted, your term runs from September 2012 through to December 2012. No prior DT experience is required.

We will contact the successful applicants no later than August 15th 2012.

If you have any questions, please shoot us an email to: sycchallenges@gmail.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We look forward to hear from you all!

Challenge #66 - Emboss

Thank you to everyone who played along with our chipboard challenge last moth.

For Challenge No #66 we would like to see you EMBOSS.
Do you have an embossing machine and folders that you have ignored for a long time? Do you have lots of embossing powders that are stuffed in the back of your cupboard?
Then this challenge is perfect for you this month because we want to see you include some form of embossing (wet or dry) on your project.

---*---
Be sure and comment with a link to your *newly created* project so we can see and comment on them.
---*---
If you link us to an online gallery, make sure that you only use one for which we do not need to register in order to view/comment
Please also consider to switch of word verification on your blogs if you would like our DT to leave comment. If you are worried about Spam you may want to have commen moderation enabled instead

---*---*---*---*---*---
And here are our DT examples to give you an idea on how to emboss on your projects

Aimee
"I used a Crafter's Workshop stencil and rubbed an embossing pad over it. Then embossed with clear powder, and painted over it with watercolor paint. The embossing resists the paint."

Channa
"I decided to go with dry and wet embossing. I think the dry embossing is clear to see, I used my cuttlebug and some folders, the wet embossing part is the white butterfly"

Gabrielle
“I did wet embossing with mist resist with Lawn Fawn chevron stamps and October Afternoon art box mists”.

Jenifer
“the paper scrap behind the photo is dry embossed”

Martine
I heat embossed the letters. I pressure embossed then heat embossed with clear powder the piece of CS under the photo at the top right. I inked over it in black, and the raised, embossed parts resisted.”
Nitasha
“Embossed the card with a Tim Holtz embossing folder. And also heat embossed the sentiments with Zing”
Norine
“I cut chevron strips from a piece of Bazzill patterned paper and used that as a stencil for my emboss ink. After clear heat embossing it, I brushed Mr Huey inks, three shades, and let the resist do it's thang. I distress inked the alpha stickers and misted some fabric covered octagon chipboards.”
Sarah
“I heat embossed the label die cut with gold embossing powder. And the oval underneath it was dry embossed with an embossing folder. I sponged a little ink over it to show the swiss dots better.”
